Nedunchalai is another period film in tamil. The story happens in late 80s. Aari and Shivada Nair are playing the lead roles and Prashant Narayanan is playing the bad cop. The famous mollywood comedian, known for his role in Maryan, Salim kumar is playing another important role in the movie.
The movie kick starts with "Thaarpaai Murugan" chasing a lorry and and stealing the goods from the container. Murugan,an orphan is grown up by a old man (Karuppan Kusumban fame actor). He joins a gang and starts stealing things from lorries passing madurai periyakulam area. Thaarpaai Murugan becomes a nightmare for the lorry owners. Manga (Shivada nair) is a Dhaba owner in that route whose employee (parotta master) is Thambi ramaiah.
Thats when Maasanamuthu enters the scene as a bad cop who does all sort of illegal activites. The role is done by Prashant Narayan who reminds the bad cop in "Pokkiri".A Very similar characterization. He looks like Daniel Balaji in certain angles.
There is a clash between Murugan and the cop and they hit back each other. Meanwhile Masanamuthu eyes manga and that increases their wrath even more. Manga fall in love with murugan at a point where murugan saves her from a brothel case. As per the tamil cinema norms the hero also falls in love with manga after a few scenes. And as a result stops all his illegal activities. Masanam wants to kill him but murugan seeks the help of IAS officer.
But masanam he himself steal lorries in Thaarpaai murugan style and gets shooting order from the commissioner. Manga and Murugan plans to leave the town. Did they escape masanamuthu's trap? Thats the climax. No sorry wait.. The trend says these type of movies should have only an Anti-Climax.
All actors have done justice to their roles. The movie is full of censor cuts for vulgar dialogues. That was quite irritating, Not the dialogues the long beeps in between some important scenes. Salim kumar, the veteran malayalam actor makes us laugh throughout the movie. The Songs and BGM are quite ok. The item number is really good.
Nedunchalai is definitely worth the money u pay. But make sure u dont watch this movie with your family. The camera angles, dialogues will make u feel uneasy. But at any point of the movie you wont feel irritated. Except the Climax which was purposefully made into an Anti-Climax.
My Rating: 7 Out of 10
